The New Intervale (a documentary) The people at black and blue productions asked me to help out with some audio post production. I fixed up some background noise problems and match audio that varied between scenes. Also cleaned up some general phasing problems. Audio editing was done directly in Final Cut Pro. |

dialogue for three "self titled" This is another danger studios recording. mixing was rushed a little but I think it came out sounding pretty good. It was recorded in acid as well. It was good to work on another space rock record with lots of guitars. I took a lot of liberties with the last song on the record "Without Me" I moved a ton of stuff around and was liberal with the effects. d43 was nice enough to let me do what I thought sounded good. I'm glad I got to stick my fingers in this record. |

colin clary and the magogs "her life of crime" I recorded and mixed this bad boy. It was recorded and mixed in acid with 3 mics. mixed in Acid through Alesis Monitor ones. We took a ton of time recording and mixing because we didn't have a lot of equipment to work with. while playign with mixes we found a lot of things we wanted to re-record so we constantly set ourselves back. We did a ton of revisions on all the mixes. We burned mixes direct out to a standalone burner (no mulit speed exporting for us!) When we were done mixing we took it to eric masunaga to master. He did it in sonics studio in boston, ma. It took us over a year to write and record all the parts to colins songs, over a month of intense mixing / revising. Here a sample here: shape of this town. |

the magic is gone"no one will ever be completely satisfied" I recorded and mixed this as well. we recorded drums live at hi-fi-lo-if into protools. using large diaphram condensors on everything. the guitars and bass went direct in using pods. then I bounced a rough mix of the drums to a stereo file and the guitars to a seperate stereo file. Took these files home and recorded my real guitars, colin's real guitars, joe's real bass and the vocal parts at my house. I saved all these as .wavs took them back up to hi-fi-lo-if imported them into the pre-existing drum files and mixed in pro-tools using blue sky 2.1's for monitors. I also added tamborine while I was mixing. We used a bunch of fun plug ins and ran vocals through some out board tube pre-amps to dirty them up a bit. This went through quiet a few mixing stages as well since we had a lot of options for mixing. in the end we decided to go with guitars up mixes. once approved by everyone in the band jay at hi-fi-lo-if mastered it in protools using mostly t-racks plug-ins. my first days on junk "songs for darla the fake girl" I recorded this at home the same time we were doing the CC and the MG's record. I recordd it with a ton of different mics, every guitar I owned and could borrow, with loops, real drums, samples, home made loops of real drums, synths that weren't mine, cheap mics, expensive mics, a bunch of friends voices, avery amp I had and pod sound that was nearly good, computers and tons of vocal over dubs. ( some songs as many as 30 vocal tracks.) this album was a pain in the ass to mix. some songs with over 50 tracks... I don't even think you can tell there were that many. maybe I went overboard but whatever. I mixed this on a laptop at hi-fi-lo-if through monitor ones and blue skys. I went crazy with delays/flipping things around/ putting distortion on everything / using effects and just playing with things in general. since it was my record I felt free to do whatever I wanted no matter how shitty it sounded. One song was actually lost at one point... all I had were vocal tracks and a rough stereo bounce of the rest of the instruments. that was a challenge to get to fit on the rest of the record since I couldn't really mix it. but after hours of eq it fit in pretty nicely. After I was done Jay at hi-fi-lo-if mastered it. and did a damn fine job. since it was a pain in the ass to mix it was also a pain in the ass to get to sound uniform in mastering. Listen to the song that was vocals and a rough mix of the music here: from a parked car |

The Smittens / Colin Clary "holiday split single" I mixed the colin clary song at danger five studio almost entirely in headphones and the smittens song at my place through monitor ones / headphones. it was fun to do. it may have been rushed a bit but still sounds pretty damn good. I didn't record or play on any of this. Hear a sample here: good migrations |
